Sun Prairie Nursery School, located in the United Methodist Church, 702 North Street, was formed, incorporated, and state licensed in 1968. We are a nonprofit, nonsectarian school open to all preschool children in the area. All teachers and staff participate in continuing education activities and are licensed by the State of Wisconsin.
We offer both Preschool and 4K programming. Our Preschool program meets 2 days per week or 3 days per week. We are also a partner site for SP4K offering 4K 5 days per week. Each class has 2 teachers and a maximum of 20 children. Our total enrollment for the school is 100 students. SPNS follows the SPASD school calendar and is in session September-early June.
The philosophy of Sun Prairie Nursery School embraces the idea that the first five years of a child’s life are important. It is necessary that we capitalize on these years - that we help children develop their amazing potential. SPNS offers opportunities for socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of the child. Our program is designed to meet those needs in a warm and friendly manner.
The curriculum at SPNS is “play based” and encourages the child to learn through exploration and active play. We believe that “play is children’s work” and have created an environment that supports this.
During the day your child has many opportunities for learning. We provide a variety of child initiated and teacher directed activities.
A parent cooperative nursery school is one which families are directly involved in the enrichment and success of the school through active participation in and out of the classroom. This family participation is encouraged in the following areas: being active in fundraising events, volunteering in the classroom, and providing snacks. Our program thrives on family involvement!
We always look forward to families sharing their times and talents with our classes. Families are encouraged to suggest ideas and changes for the constant improvement of the school.
The cooperative concept provides both the parent/guardian and the child the unique opportunity to work together and enjoy the total school experience. It also offers the chance to get acquainted with the families of your child's classmates and to work closely with them in joint ventures for the school.
